Personality:
Ernie likes to think that he is loyal, but he has proven himself wrong here many times. Loyalty is something that has to be earned, and so far, there are only a handful of people in his life who he would completely put down his life for. Ernie has trust issues, and its no secret. He had his heart broken at a young age and never managed to get over it, but instead of making him shy away from relationships, this only made Ernie more desperate to replace the love that he had lost.
He has been known to be vindictive in the past, a little bit of a back stabber, but all in the name of protection! Ernie won't let a wrong word be said against a close friend or family member. His loyalty was brought on from a young age, and encouraged by his brother. Ernie rarely discusses his family, its about the only topic thats off limits. The disappearance of his brother after their fathers death caused him immense pain, and is still something that he is coming to terms with. Ernie never got over the fact that his brother left him alone (even though he was at more than an adequate age to look after himself). Jack was the closest thing to a father Ernie had.
Generally he come over as happy and perky, trying not to let the clique of being orphaned have any affect on his life. Ernie makes his way in the world the way that Jack showed him, so, sometimes he stumbles, but overall he holds it together pretty well.
He has his views and beliefs and sticks to them rigidly, putting his neck on the line for what he believes. He is not a preacher, and doesn't force his ideas on to others, but enjoys lively discussions about topics that he and a friend disagree on.
Temper has always been a problem for Ernie, but not manifesting itself in a physical way. Ernie has a skill of hurting people with the things that he says, and he is fully aware of its power. He has found that removing himself from a situation is the only way to stifle the words that could come spilling from him otherwise.
Overall, he is trustworthy, so long as the secrets he holds never put himself at risk - he'll always spill to save himself, and he hates it.
Ernie is, if anything, too trusting of others, giving people way more chances than they deserve, or letting them in on way too much before they have even finished introducing themselves. He is an easy lover, but hard to love. He falls for people before he knows them and starts planning out their lives before a first kiss.
Ernie makes sure that his intentions with relationships are made clear from the word go, theres no sense in hurting anyone dragging things out too long. He speaks his mind, and this has gotten him in trouble in the past. When he was younger, Ernie was seen as a bit of a rule breaker, but he has got a cap on it now, and has mellowed out substantially throughout his 20's.

History:
Violet and Edword were practically promised to each other from birth. Their parents were close friends in a Covet located in London, and wanted to guarantee that their children had the same close lived lifestyle.
The Carnens were rich, in both money and power. Edword's father headed the Covent and worked in the Dark Magic trade, buying and selling mystical objects. Violet, born Violet Darkgo came from a slightly less prestigious family, but still lived in money.
Violet and Edword were married when they were both 20. Having grown up together, they had formed a friendship, but this never blossomed into love, and nether was happy with the marriage.
Unwilling to go against his fathers word, Edword insisted that the marriage work and moved his new wife to Scotland. News of the couples move proceeded them and they were welcomed into the magical community and a new Covent.
Settling into their new lavish home, Violet soon fell pregnant. The couple were visited shortly after the birth of their son by Alexander, Edwords older, unmarried brother. Alexander spoke of money troubles and his discontent of living so far away from the family.
Violet insisted to Edword that Alexander be allowed to live with the family. To begin with, Edword was having none of it, there was a reason that he had moved his family away, and he didn't want his well traveled, open minded brother polluting his child. After Violet broke down in tears at the idea of sending Alexander home, it was quickly arranged that he moved into the East Wing of the family home.
As Jack grew, his relationship with Alexander and his father grew stronger. Edword was aware that Jack would be his heir and inherit everything that went along eight the Carnen name, so the birth of Ernest 7 years after Jack was an inconvenience.
Ernie was an intelligent child and Jack grew very fond of him, but his lack of natural magical ability lead his father to doubt his legitimacy. Edword and Violet had never loved each other, and this doubt in the relationship only added fuel to the fire. Arguments raged through the house, often resulting in curses flying.
Edword allowed Violet to say in the family home, but the couple barely spoke for the remained of the marriage. Around his 6th birthday, Edword finally accepted Ernest as his son as the boy held an uncanny resemblance to him, but this did nothing for the father son relationship. Edword despised Ernest for forcing a further wedge between him and his wife, and saw no need for him in the family.
Alexander, Violet and Jack raised Ernie, Edword had nothing to do with the child. Ernie was always devoted to his mother and brother. His mother nurtured his personality, and cared little for his lack in practical magic as he showed great skill in theoretical magic. Jack taught Ernie how to fist fight, and how to look after himself, and Alexander taught him the stories of his heritage, and about the world that he hadn't seen from the confounds of the house hold and the Covent.
Around Ernies 11th birthday, things began to change further in the Carnen household. For the first time since his arrival at the home, Alexander left on 'business'. No contact was made with the family while he was away. He did not return for 12 months. During his absence, Ernie could see his mothers heart break and it became clear to whom here true love was for.
About 6 months into Alexanders disappearance, Violet broke down. She locked herself away in her rooms and refused to eat, sleep or talk to anyone apart from Ernie. The house was haunted by her continued cry for Alexander to return to her. Edword stopped visitors to the house, explaining to Jack that the shame of his wife loving his brother was too much to bare in front of his friends.
After 3 months of insanity, she sent Ernie away from her bedside, claiming that she had no recollection of his face and didn't wish to be disturbed again. In panic, Ernest ran to his father and brother. For the first time in months they went to her room. She did not recognise ether face, and their presence deeply upset her.
Edword made arrangements for a nurse to move into the family home to care for Violet full time. In a round about way, he was now free of her. He continued to teach Jack the art of Dark magic, and to ignore Ernie.
3 months after the incident with his mother, Jack opened the door to his uncle Alexander. The evening was cold, and his uncle was pale. Edword and Alexander closed the doors to the study room and argued for hours. Edword blamed Alexander for the love that his wife felt for him, for Ernies curiosity in anything un pure and un magical and for the future death of his wife.
Jack and Ernie sat in the hallway listening to every word that the brothers spat at each other. Ernie knew that Jack would take is fathers side in any fight, he also knew that he was too weak to take Alexanders side, and be of any sort of help, and Alexander himself didn't look like he would be up to much of a fight.
After about 6 hours of shouting, Jack burst the doors of the study room sending a stun charm at his uncle sending him flying across the room. Ernest clenched his fists inside his pockets, seeing anger in his brother that he had never seen before. He knew where his loyalties lay, and they weren't with him.
Ernest then witnessed Alexander lunge at Jack, throwing his teeth in to his neck. In that second he thought that Alexander would kill Jack, but he pulled away, turned to grab Ernies hand, and the pair ran from the house as Edword desperately attempted to undo the damage.
Alexander later explained that his 'business trip' had been a way to widen his horizons, and he had gone in search of a vampire willing to change him, but it had taken quite a while longer than he first assumed it would. He explained that he loved Violet, but had never acted on it, and that he had always thought of Ernest as his son. He also explained that what had happened to Jack was regrettable and unplanned, but it was the only way to hurt Edword, by polluting, without any chance of repair, the only thing he loved.
Alexander and Ernie moved to France where Ernie began Wizarding school for the first time. In his 3rd year, on his 5th birthday, Ernie returned to the home that he shared with Alexander to find him gone, and a letter explaining that his 'condition' had got unexpectedly worse, and it would be for the best if he didn't go looking for him.
Ernie returned to the school, making it his permanent home. After his graduation, and his 18th birthday, Ernie took up a teaching position at the school, and moved in to an apartment on the campus of the school. He was the youngest, and one of the most loved teachers on the staff, holding close relationships with many of the staff and students.
On his 20th birthday, Ernie received a letter from Jack, the first contact that he had had since the night he left the family home. Jack explained that he had regrettably gotten on the wrong side of their father, and after some harsh words and a few curses, Edword was dead.
The shock of his fathers death, and his brothers openness about the incident that had caused it haunted him. Ernie shared the information with a close friend, but didn't see the need to discuss it further with anyone.
The next year, Ernie packed his cases and moved. France had been his home for so long, and he hated change, but something had to give. After a series of failed relationships, and the prolonged confusion over the feelings of his fathers death, Ernie returned to his family home. On his return, he found the majority of the house to be empty, just the quarters that his mother inhabited.
Ernie stayed at the home for a few months, visiting his mothers room every day. Her condition seemed to worsen with him back at the house. Ernie contacted Alexanders closest friend who said that he was living with Elfs in Iceland. Eventually contact was made with Alexander, and he made his way back to the house. The uncle and nephew sat at Violets bedside until she passed away.
Devastated and wracked with the guilt of leaving her, Ernie made a phone call to a friend in France, and left Alexander and the family home in search of a new life.
