Once upon a time there were two rival clans. They fought fiercely against one another trying to destroy their opponent. Each time they clashed they would always fight to a standstill. Neither able to gain the upperhand on the other. So the chief of the first clan went to a powerful shaman priestess. She would give him power beyond his dreams, but it would come at a price. He would no longer be alive, but never completely dead. Stuck in the limbo of eternity forever. Accepting the price he became what would later be known as the first vampire. Drake was his name. The next time Drake's clan clashed with their rivals he tore through them, and nearly killed them all.
Frightened at Drake's new power the other chief went, and sought out the same priestess. Seeing how destructive Drake had become, she decided to give this man a different type of power. The power of the wolf. Allowing him to shift into a humanoid wolf form, and giving him the power to kill Drake with ease. The two men met on the battlefield again, and their battle was fierce. As their warriors fought, and killed each other the two men were still forced at a standstill. With both armies retreating, and licking their wounds. Both men discovered something new. They could pass on their powers to others through a single bite.
Turning their armies into wolves, and vampires they clashed for one final time. The priestess who had given them these destructive capabilities appeared in a brilliant flash of light. Using her own magical powers she cursed both men, and their armies. Forever Vampires would be slaves to the elements of the sun, and wood, and Wolves would be slaves to the moon. Having their powers diminished until the full moon. This only affected those that they had bitten however.
Drake could still walk in the sun, and his enemy could still morph at will. So she crafted two special daggers, and stabbed both men through the heart. Putting them into a comatose state, and locking them away deep inside a hidden cavern, that would later be the tombs that would be enchanted to hold vampires under the town of Mystic Falls. This is how it all started.
